A Serbian Film is a 2010 Serbian drama film directed by Srdan Golubović. It tells the story of Radovan Karadžić, former President of Republika Srpska who became internationally known for his alleged responsibility for the massacre in Srebrenica during the Bosnian War which took place in 1995. The film stars Uroš Pajtić as Karadžić, alongside prominent actors Vuk Jeremić, Miki Manojlović, Dragan Nikolički, Mirjana Karanović and Miroslav Djordjević. The film also marks the film debut of drummer Đorđe Crnobrnja, whose drumming sounds were featured prominently in the film. The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on 2 September 2010, where it competed for the Golden Lion Award. It had its Bulgarian premiere at the Hollywood Film Festival on 11 November 2010. It then had its Serbian premiere at the Belgrade Theatre on 25 November 2010. The film had its Croatian premiere at the Cinema City in Zagreb on 19 December 2010. A special screening was held in Bosnia and Herzegovina, attended by Damir Džeko, who is featured as himself in the film. Džeko also previewed the film and gave his full support. The film had its French premiere at the European Film Market on 10 February 2011. The film was originally titled "Happy Family", but Golubović agreed to change it for the Venice Film Festival in order to attract more viewers who may not have otherwise attended. He later stated in an interview that there were no plans to rename it at all, since the new title is not meant to sensationalize or distort the actual content of the film, but instead adapt it for a larger audience. The film received a nomination for the Golden Lion Award at the 69th Venice International Film Festival, and was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actor and the Grand Jury Prize. It was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Academy Awards. The film initially had a limited release in Serbia, but it became one of the most commercially successful Serbian films to date, selling 2.4 million tickets in its first week of release and grossing over 1.5 million euros. The film starts with a slow fade-up from black towards a shot of Radovan Karadžić, during his last few days as president of Republika Srpska ("RS"), or "the Serbian Republic". Karadžić, a convicted war criminal who is well-known for his role in the Srebrenica massacre, is facing trial for his involvement in crimes against humanity. Karadžić (played by Uroš Pajtić) has been stripped of all power and influence, and is living in a small apartment outside of Belgrade with no furniture or other possessions to speak of. He receives a visit from his wife Ljubica (Mirjana Karanović), and their children Mira (Miki Manojlović) and Petar (Vuk Jeremić). cfa1e77820
